What Happened to The Winchester Pub from Shaun of the Dead?

The Winchester Shaun of the Dead

I was watching Shaun of the Dead (2004) last night and thought, “I wonder if you can actually go the The Winchester pub..?” A bit of Googling later and I found that it’s sadly no longer a pub but an apartment building.

Located at 39, Monson Road, New Cross, London, Shaun and Ed’s local boozer the Winchester Tavern (actual name The Old Duke of Albany) was a three story Victorian pub used for the external shots in the movie. Internal shots were filmed at Ealing Studios.

The pub unfortunately suffered the same fate as many other former pubs around the country and closed its doors in or around 2005. It was eventually remodelled and converted into flats in 2008.

“Take car, go to Mum's. Kill Phil, ”Sorry”, grab Liz, go to the Winchester, have a nice cold pint, and wait for all of this to blow over.”
