The Guardian (2006)

I was listening to a playlist on my iTunes last night and a song came on that I hadn’t heard for ages. The song is called “Never Let Go” by Bryan Adams (I’m a big fan) and it’s from a movie called The Guardian (2006).

I haven’t seen this film for a while but it’s good. Unfortunately it seems to be one of those forgotten movies that never gets played on TV. ☹️

If you haven’t seen it, it stars Kevin Costner (Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves), Ashton Kutcher (What Happens In Vegas), Sela Ward (The Fugitive) and Clancy Brown (Highlander) among others.

This is what it’s about:

Ben Randall (Costner) is a Coast Guard rescue swimmer. When his crew is killed in a tragic accident and his marriage falls apart, he’s sent to the US Coast Guard Rescue Swimmer "A" School to train other rescue swimmers. There he meets Jake (Kutcher) a cocky but promising candidate with a troubled past. Seeing potential in Jake, Ben pushes him to the limits in an attempt to mould his character and combine his raw talent with the heart and dedication required of a Rescue Swimmer.

I’ve always seen this film as “Top Gun in the water”, just better (yeah yeah I said it. I’m just not a fan of Top Gun). 🤷‍♂️

I know how a lot of people feel about Ashton Kutcher but this is a completely different role for him. Don’t expect comedy, expect a good film with emotion, drama and some good solid performances, especially from Kutcher.👌

It’s definitely worth a watch if you haven’t seen it. 👍
