Behind the Scenes of: The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

Behind the scenes of: The Silence of the Lambs (1991).

Director, Jonathan Demme feeds Anthony Hopkins a French fry during a break from filming the famous transfer scene.

Amazingly “Sir Anthony” wasn’t the first actor to be offered the role of Hannibal Lecter. It was originally offered to the late, great Sean Connery who turned it down after finding the whole thing “repugnant” (I had to look that word up, it basically means distasteful/offensive).

Despite being offered Sean Connery’s sloppy seconds Anthony Hopkins was wanted for the part right from the beginning. However, in 1991 he didn’t have quite as much clout as he does now and it was felt a more commercial actor would be a bigger box office draw, hence Connery getting first dibs.

I love Sean Connery but thank god he turned it down!
