Tom Cruise Posed for a Photo Sat on Top of the Tallest Building in the World

Tom Cruise Burj Khalifa

During the filming of Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011) in Dubai, Tom Cruise decided that the opportunity to snap a cheeky pic of himself sat atop the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa was too good to miss.

To get to to the top of the building (which is over half a mile high), you have two options. Either climb up via the internal ladder through the central column, or get dropped off via helicopter. Apparently Tom used the latter method.

There are debates online as to whether he was wearing a safety harness that has either been sneakily kept out of sight, or photoshopped out of the picture altogether.

Harness or no harness, it's still an impressive effort. You'd never get me up there - and if you somehow did, the poor unsuspecting bystanders below had better be using umbrellas, coz I’m pretty sure that any control of my bodily functions I currently possess would be lost at that altitude!

Mission Possible: Tom hitches a helicopter ride to the top.

On top of the world: Tom chills and contemplates how he's going to get back down.

And finally, here are some impressive facts about the Burj Khalifa taken from the official website.

At over 828 metres (2,716.5 feet) and more than 160 stories, Burj Khalifa holds the following records:

  • Tallest building in the world

  • Tallest free-standing structure in the world

  • Highest number of stories in the world

  • Highest occupied floor in the world

  • Highest outdoor observation deck in the world

  • Elevator with the longest travel distance in the world

  • Tallest service elevator in the world
