Day nine of my Twelve Films of Christmas and in 4th place is:
Elf (2003)
Much like National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation I didn’t fully appreciate this movie for a number of years. In fact I wasn’t overly fussed about Will Ferrell in general for a while, but then about five years ago I caught Elf on TV and something just clicked. Now it’s one of my favourite Christmas movies and a must-watch in my house on the lead up to the big day!
I love how innocent and naive his character is in this film. It’s part of what makes it so funny and endearing. It doesn’t hurt too that the film also stars Zoe Deschanel who looks super cute in an elf costume...
Will Ferrell reportedly turned down $29 million in 2013 to return in a sequel. As much as I love this film I’m glad he turned it down. Sequels rarely capture the same magic.
