I watched an interesting and strangely compelling film last night.
The Party’s Just Beginning (2018).
It stars Karen Gillan (Guardians of the Galaxy, Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle) and Lee Pace (Guardians of the Galaxy, Lord of the Rings) among others and I was really surprised to find that Karen Gillan also wrote and directed it.
The film is a moving and hard hitting comedy drama about a young woman who’s life spirals out of control following her best friend’s suicide.
It doesn’t sound like much I know but I really enjoyed it. In fact I suggested to my other half that we put something else on about ten minutes in but she wanted to keep watching it. I’m glad she did because it soon won me over.
It’s great to see an actress who’s already found success acting in Hollywood blockbusters doing something with real substance.
Her performance is excellent and the fact that she wrote and directed it too has made me an even bigger fan than I was already. It’s also nice to hear her speak in her natural Scottish accent.
