Striking Distance (1993)

Who remembers this film?

Striking Distance (1993)

I never see it showing on TV and no one ever talks about it like they do Die Hard and Bruce Willis’s other (bigger) movies.

If you haven’t seen it, it’s an action/crime/mystery/thriller starring Bruce Willis (Die Hard), Sarah Jessica Parker (Sex and the City), Dennis Farina (Snatch) and Tom Sizemore (Heat) among others.

This is what it’s about according to IMDb:

“Tom Hardy (Bruce Willis) is a maverick cop in pursuit of a sadistic serial killer. Demoted to river patrol after suggesting to the press the killer may be a police officer, he initiates an unauthorized investigation with his new partner (Sarah Jessica Parker).”

I watched this film a lot in my teens. It’s not one of Bruce’s bigger movies which I guess is why it doesn’t get a lot of recognition but it’s still a really enjoyable watch.

It came out during a time where it looked like Willis’ career was declining after his massive 80s success with Moonlighting and Die Hard. I might be wrong but it seems like Pulp Fiction was the film responsible for turning things around for him.

Apparently he was a nightmare on the set of this movie, re-writing scenes on the fly and his “huge ego” causing problems with production. I didn’t realise he was like that...😳

Diva or not, this is still a decent movie. It might not pack as much punch as some his more notable efforts but I like it and definitely recommend it if you fancy a good 90s action flick where the bad guy isn’t revealed until the end.

Plus, you’ve got to love that tagline:

“They shouldn’t have put him in the water, if they didn’t want him to make waves” 😆

Seen it? Let me know what you think of it.👇
