Joss Ackland Dies Aged 95

Joss Ackland

I just saw that Joss Ackland died on Sunday at the age of 95. He lived in the same area as me but I unfortunately never bumped into him.

I’ll always remember him for playing Arjen Rudd, the main villain in Lethal Weapon 2 (1989), but also as De Nomolos, the villain in Bill & Ted’s Bogus Journey (1991), a role he reportedly regretting taking.

During his career he racked up more than 200 TV and film credits which include The Three Musketeers (1973), One of Our Dinosaurs is Missing (1975), Watership Down (1978), The Hunt for Red October (1990) and Miracle on 34th Street (1994). He also had a successful stage career.

In 2001 he received a CBE (Commander of the Order of the British Empire) for services to drama.

I’ll also always associate him with one of the best movie lines in history (and one I quite often quote)…

“Diplomatic Immunity!”

Rest in peace.
