Ghost Town (2008)

Love him or hate him, Ricky Gervais has done some good stuff!

Although he’s probably better known for his TV series’ like The Office, Extras, and the more recent After Life (as well as upsetting people at the Golden Globes), he’s dipped his toe in the Hollywood pond several times.

Not all of his outings on the big screen are worth mentioning, but one film in particular is...

Ghost Town (2008)

Co-written and directed by David Koep who wrote the screenplays for films such as Jurassic Park (1993), Mission Impossible (1996), Spider-Man (2002) and War of the Worlds (2005), Ghost Town stars Ricky Gervais (Night at the Museum), Téa Leoni (Bad Boys) and Greg Kinnear (Little Miss Sunshine) among others.

Here’s what it’s about:

After a routine colonoscopy goes wrong and he dies on the operating table for several minutes, people-hating dentist Bertram Pincus (Gervais) finds he’s suddenly able to see and hear ghosts.

Constantly harassed by unhappy spirits who want his help to resolve unfinished business so they can cross over, Pincus struggles to go about his day to day life while at the same time realising he’s attracted to the widow of one of the spirits that’s asking for his help.

I absolutely love this movie!!

It’s funny, heartwarming, tear jerking and unfortunately, one of those films that gets either missed or dismissed by people who don’t like Ricky Gervais even though they might find that they actually enjoy it.

P.S. My “Who’s chopping onions?!” clip this Sunday might possibly be one from this film so if you don’t want the ending spoilt, watch it between now and then. I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy it! 👌
