Why Does No One Like the Fantastic Four Movies?

Before the MCU (Marvel Cinematic Universe) was born, Marvel Studios was still putting out movies, just with no real intention of ever bringing all of the characters together.

The first of these worth mentioning was Blade (1998).

Marvel Studios (originally called Marvel Films until 1996) was brand new at this time and the success of Blade actually paved the way for all of the movies that would follow.

In 2000 X-Men burst on to our screens and essentially ushered in a new era of movies - Superhero movies!

In 2002 we had the first of three Spider-Man films starring Tobey Maguire as Spidey (a franchise that would later be rebooted in 2012 as The Amazing Spider-Man) and in 2003 we got the Ang Lee helmed Hulk and the seemingly forgotten Daredevil starring Ben Affleck (I actually like that film).

Over the years we’d see many more Marvel movies released, some good, some not so good. Movies like The Punisher (2004), Elektra (2005), Ghost Rider (2007), and these two:

Fantastic Four (2005) and Fantastic 4: Rise of the Silver Surfer (2007)

The reason for this post isn’t to educate you on the history of Marvel films but to ask, why don’t people like the Fantastic Four movies? đŸ€”

Not only do they have a very average rating on IMDb but I’m forever hearing them described as bad movies when I actually think they’re pretty good!

Ok so since The creation of the MCU with the first Iron Man film in 2008, Marvel have really got their sh#t together and upped the quality of their movies. Back in the early 2000s though these light hearted films were kind of the thing. đŸ€·â€â™‚ïž

I’ve never read the Fantastic Four comics so maybe that’s where it all lies but I really enjoyed and still really enjoy these movies.

At one point there was talk of a spin off Silver Surfer movie and I was really looking forward to that. Unfortunately it ended up in “development hell” and the whole Fantastic Four franchise was eventually rebooted in 2015 with a film that got panned even worse than these two. đŸ˜”

With yet another reboot on the way that will incorporate Reed Richards, Sue Storm, Johnny Storm and Ben Grimm into the now well established MCU (not to mention a new X-Men film that will do the same) it seems these films are destined to be forgotten about which I think is a shame. đŸ˜„

What do you think? Do you like these movies or am I in the minority?
