The Original Tomb Raider Trilogy Has Been Remastered - Why Can’t They Make a Decent Movie?

Tomb Raider trilogy remastered

I've been playing the original Tomb Raider on PS4 the past couple of days.

If you weren’t aware, the original trilogy has been remastered and re-released in one package - and I’m absolutely loving it!! Weirdly though, as good as the remaster looks I’m finding myself playing the game with the original graphics (you can switch between old and new). It’s a real nostalgia trip!

I spent hours playing these games in my youth. Between Tomb Raider and Resident Evil I dread to think how much time I’ve spent looking at a screen with a controller in my hands.

I’ve often wondered though why a decent movie adaptation hasn’t been made. Sure there were the two Angelina Jolie films and the more recent movie starring Alicia Vikander that was based on the 2013 reboot of the game, but none of them have really captured the spirit of the games - at least I don’t think so.

I feel the same about Resident Evil. I’ve often thought that a decent Resident Evil movie would have the potential to be the best zombie movie ever made. Alas they keep f#cking it up!

I wonder if film adaptations of games fail to deliver because as a viewer we’re less invested. When you play a video game like this you ARE the character, and every choice you make is often a life or death one. When you watch a film adaptation of a game you’re simply watching someone play the character, so a lot of what you like about the whole thing is essentially lost.

With the success of The Last of Us series (largely due to its faithfulness to the game) I hope to see more movie and TV adaptations of some of my favourite video games given a chance to live up to their potential, rather than soulless, forgettable films that just cash in on the title.

What do you think? Are you a Tomb Raider fan? Have you got the remastered trilogy? If so which mode are you playing it on?

Let me know in the comments.
