Superior Sequels: The Dark Knight Trilogy

The Dark Knight trilogy

It’s Superior Sequels time again and as much as this one seems fairly obvious I thought I’d put it up for debate anyway.

This week we’re looking at another trilogy:

Batman Begins (2005), The Dark Knight (2008) and The Dark Knight Rises (2012)

Christopher Nolan did a brilliant job of rescuing the Batman movie franchise after the horror that is Batman & Robin (1997) turned the dark knight into a nipple-suit-wearing joke of his former self.

Nolan took away a lot of the fantasy and grounded the new films in reality (or as close to it as you can get). His Batman has since become a lot of people’s favourite version of the character.

Most people tend to favour The Dark Knight, largely because of Heath Ledger’s iconic portrayal of the Joker. The fact that he died so tragically before the film was released also adds to the film’s legacy, but is it the best film of the trilogy?

Personally I’ve got a soft spot for Batman Begins but that’s just me.

What do you think?

Is The Dark Knight the obvious winner and this is indeed a case of a sequel surpassing the first film?

Have your say in the comments.
