Sabrina (1995)

I watched a film yesterday that I haven’t seen in years!

Sabrina (1995)

If you haven’t seen it, it’s a romantic comedy, drama starring Harrison Ford (Raiders of the Lost Ark), Julia Ormond (Legends of the Fall) and Greg Kinnear (As Good as It Gets) among many others.

This is what it’s about according to the internet:

“Sabrina Fairchild (Julia Ormond) is a chauffeur's daughter who grew up with the wealthy Larrabee family. She always had unreciprocated feelings for David (Greg Kinnear), the family's younger son and playboy. But after returning from Paris, Sabrina has become a glamorous woman who gets David's attention. His older, work-minded brother Linus (Harrison Ford) thinks their courtship is bad for the family business and tries to break them up, but then he starts to fall for her too.”

This film is actually a remake of the 1954 version starring Humphrey Bogart, Audrey Hepburn and William Holden which itself was based on the 1953 play “Sabrina Fair”.

I’d forgotten how good this movie was! It really had me laughing at times.

Harrison Ford is great as the straight laced, no nonsense, business-comes-first older brother, but Greg Kinnear (who I think is shamefully underrated as an actor) is really funny as his carefree, playboy younger brother.

I’m not sure how much I believe the love story between Julia Ormond’s character Sabrina and Harrison Ford’s character Linus (what with their 23 year age gap) but the film has so much charm that you just find yourself going with it.

Julia Ormond was on a bit of a role around this time having done Legends of the Fall and First Knight (a film I really need to watch again soon) just the year before. After this she kind of dropped off the radar (or mine at least). She’s been acting steadily ever since but I just haven’t really seen any of the stuff she’s done.

If you haven’t seen this one and you like a bit of romance, a nice story and a film that’s extremely easy watch you should check it out. It also has that great 90s quality about it. 👌

Seen it or seen the original? Let me know how they compare.👇
