I hate Rotten Tomatoes! (the website, not the gross squishy red things). For some reason it seems to be the gauge by which films are measured and I have absolutely no idea why!
I’ve said before that I don’t like film critics. They dissect films that are meant to be fun escapism, they over analyse, they look for “messages” and hidden meanings in films that have none, and they generally go out of their way to put people like you and me off watching movies that we’d otherwise enjoy. I swear they hate films and they became critics just to try to ruin it for the rest of us!
Some of these so called “critics” spew their venom about movies I like on Rotten Tomatoes.
If you’ve been following this page for a while you’ll know that I’m always interested to know what other people think about some of the films I watch. However, I don’t tend to read reviews until after I’ve watched the film. By reading a review after I’ve watched the movie, I already have my own opinion formed so can’t be put off.
Rotten Tomatoes advertises itself as “the world's most trusted recommendation resource for quality entertainment.”
RUBBISH!!
99.9% of the films I’ve loved have been slagged off on this site and 99.9% of the films I’ve hated have been raved about.
Now either I have a completely different taste in films to the rest of the movie-watching public, or this site is a massive load of horse sh#te. (I’m inclined to go with the latter).
Another popular platform I think is highly overrated is Netflix, but that’s a post for another time.
Do yourself a favour, steer clear of Rotten Tomatoes and use IMDb instead. I find their film ratings far more accurate and it’s a much more pleasant place to be as a film fan.
Rant over.
