The Screen Room
Ron Howard Bio
I thought I’d do a post on director Ron Howard.
What some people don’t realise is that the director of great movies such as Splash (1984), Cocoon (1985), Willow (1988), Apollo 13 (1995), The Grinch (2000), A Beautiful Mind (2001), The Da Vinci Code (2006) and many others is also the actor that played Richie Cunningham in the classic hit tv show Happy Days.
His brother, Clint Howard is also an actor and has appeared in loads of tv shows and films since childhood.
You might recognise him best as little Mark Wedloe from Gentle Ben (1967-1969) - but as an adult he’s appeared in various Star Trek episodes and has starred in a lot of his brother’s movies as well as a tonne of others.
Personally I’ll always remember him as “Slinky” from Tango & Cash (1989).
Ron’s daughter is non other than Bryce Dallas Howard from the Jurassic World movies and films such as The Village (2004), Lady in the Water (2006), Terminator Salvation (2009) and Rocketman (2019).
Ron Howard started his directing career in the late 60s, and continued throughout the 70s directing mainly short films and TV movies. He played Richie Cunningham in Happy Days for ten years between 1974 and 1984 but after the show finished he favoured work behind the camera. He’s since emerged as one of the most sought after writer/director/producers working in the industry today.
He still occasionally takes the odd acting role and can be heard as the narrator of the popular series Arrested Development.
Is this a revelation to you or did you already know it..? 🤔
