Now & Then: Jennifer Lawrence

This week’s now and then actor/actress (which is correct these days?) is the beautiful and talented Jennifer Lawrence.

With her first notable acting credit being an episode of Monk in 2006, Lawrence shot to fame playing the younger Mystique in X-Men: Days of Future Past (2011). She followed it up the next year by playing Katniss Everdeen in the first of four movies that would catapult her into superstardom, The Hunger Games (2012).

She’s gone on to establish herself as one of the best and most sought after young female actors of today, winning numerous awards, including an Academy Award for her role in Silver Linings Playbook (2012).

Her films have grossed over 6 billion dollars world wide and she was the highest paid actress in 2015 and 2016.

In her personal life she’s a feminist (a concept she argues should not intimidate people "because it just means equality") and a supporter of a non profit organisation called Planned Parenthood that provides reproductive healthcare in the United States and globally.

By all accounts despite her success she’s remained grounded and has been described as “down to earth” "sharp", "funny" and "quirky".

It’s nice to hear that success doesn’t go to everybody’s head.

Having not seen The Hunger Games (cue the scalding comments), my top JLaw recommendations are as follows:

Silver Linings Playbook (2012)

Joy (2015)

Passengers (2016)

What’s your favourite Jennifer Lawrence movie? 🤔
