Moon (2009)

Last night on the recommendation of a couple of people in the comments of my Ex Machina post on Facebook I watched Moon (2009).

I’ve been aware of this film for quite a while but for some reason have never watched it till now.

If you haven’t seen it, it’s a sci-fi/mystery/drama written and directed by Duncan Jones (director of Source Code and Warcraft: The Beginning and son of the legendary Davie Bowie) and stars Sam Rockwell (The Green Mile).

If I tried to explain the storyline in my own words I think I’d give the whole plot away so here’s the synopsis according IMDb:

“Astronaut Sam Bell has a quintessentially personal encounter toward the end of his three-year stint on the Moon, where he, working alongside his computer, GERTY, sends back to Earth parcels of a resource that has helped diminish our planet's power problems.”

I know that write up doesn’t do a great job of selling this movie (at least not for me) but let me tell you, this is a really good film!

Sam Rockwell is such a brilliant actor! He’s so detestable in The Green Mile but so likeable in Seven Psychopaths, and in this, if your heart isn’t breaking for him for 90% of the movie you should really get a doctor to check you actually have one.

It’s a really thought provoking, heart string pulling, compelling watch, and if like me you’ve managed to not see it these past 11 years, sort it out and give it a watch. 👍

By the way, I watched this movie knowing nothing about it other than what I read above and I probably enjoyed it more as a result. If you want to watch the trailer though, click below.👇

Thanks for the great recommendation guys. 🙌
