Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001)

Well I finally did it. I started my Harry Potter journey last night by watching the first film:

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone (2001) - (or “Sorcerer’s Stone” if you live in the United States or India). 😳

I have to say, I really enjoyed it!

I think I’ve told you before that I’ve only ever seen three of the movies, but whilst watching this one last night it occurred to me that actually, I’ve only really seen two of those in dribs and drabs when my step kids used to watch them constantly (on VHS).

This is the first time I’ve seen the first one all the way through.

If I’m honest I was expecting to not fully enjoy it. I’ve always though of the first few as “kid’s films” and I’ve been told in the past that the first two aren’t that good compared to the others. I was surprised to find I got right into it.

I see what people meant when they said the kid’s acting isn’t great in parts, but actually the supporting cast, the music and the whole charm of it all won me over enough to look past it.

The late great Alan Rickman was on form as always and I loved Richard Harris as Dumbledore. It’s such a shame he passed away before all the films were made.

So that’s it! One down, seven to go.

All aboard the Hogwarts Express - Next stop, Chamber of Secrets....🧙‍♂️👍
