Film Fact #8:
The creepy mask that Michael Myers wears in Halloween (1978) was originally a William Shantner/Captain Kirk mask.
It was purchased from a costume shop on Hollywood Boulevard for $1.98.
Production designer Tommy Lee Wallace had the eyebrows and sideburns ripped off, the face painted white, the eyes made bigger and the hair spray-painted dark brown.
It was one of two masks considered for the classic horror film. The other was a Don Post Emmett Kelly smiling clown mask but the crew decided on the one we’ve all become terrified of because of its creepy expressionless appearance.
The mask has changed slightly throughout the many films but is still based on the good old Captain Kirk original.
