Film Fact #6: The “Family Friendly” Lost Boys

Film Fact #6:

The Lost Boys (1987) was originally intended to be a “family friendly” vampire movie based around the Peter Pan idea of young boys that never grow up (hence the title “The Lost Boys“).

Richard Donner (Lethal Weapon, The Goonies) was going to direct, and the vampire characters were to be of a much younger age (around 13 or 14) with the Frog brothers being "chubby 8 year old Cub Scouts". The character of Star was also going to be a young boy.

When Donner left to pursue other projects, Joel Schumacher (St. Elmo’s Fire, Batman Forever) signed on to direct but insisted the script be re-worked for an older audience.

Thank God he did! 🧛🏻‍♂️
