Coming to America (1988)

Coming to America (1988)

Who doesn’t love this film?!

It’s Eddie Murphy at his absolute best (with the exception of Beverly Hills Cop) and his last great film before slowly succumbing to 90s family friendly commercialism.

For those of you who haven’t seen it, shame on you, but regardless, here’s what it’s about according to IMDb:

“An extremely pampered African Prince travels to Queens, New York, and goes undercover to find a wife that he can respect for her intelligence and will.”

Eddie Murphy, and Arsenio Hall as his aid are pure class!

Both playing multiple characters throughout (and with an appearance from a younger Samuel L. Jackson) this film is a joy to watch again and again.

With a sequel recently announced, again starring Eddie Murphy and Arsenio Hall but this time with the addition of Wesley Snipes, I’m both excited and a little concerned...🤔

Eddie Murphy also has Beverly Hills Cop 4 and Triplets (a sequel to 1988s Twins) in the works but we’ve all seen how sequels released decades after the original have turned out...🤞

If you haven’t seen this film, do yourself a favour. Stick the kettle on, make a cup of tea and relax on the sofa during lockdown watching one of the best 80s movies the decade has to offer.
